June 8th marked another World Oceans Day across the globe. This year’s theme, “Awaken New Depths,” aimed to shift our relationship with the ocean and motivate widespread change by awakening a new level of understanding, compassion, collaboration and commitment for the ocean.
In California, USA, #NatureForAll partner Paso Pacifico co-hosted the annual World Ocean Day Ventura event in partnership with the National Park Service and the Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Club. Activities occurring throughout the day highlighted the importance of protecting our oceans. Visitors were able to learn more about Paso Pacifico’s ocean conservation efforts and watch educational programs at the Channel Islands National Visitor Center.
The Ventura Outrigger Challenge, hosted by the Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Club, had teams from across Southern California competing in a 6-person iron race on the ocean nearby.
A special live broadcast from Oriente Salvaje in El Salvador, which will be designated as the first World Surfing Reserve this fall, was streamed towards the end of the day. Proceeds raised throughout the event went on to support Paso Pacifico’s work to safeguard the ocean.
World Ocean Day Ventura is just one example of how #NatureForAll partners celebrate their love of nature. Check out other partner celebrations organised by #NatureForAll partners on the Love Fest page, a yearly event for partners to come together and celebrate our collective love of and action for nature, while sharing inspirational stories from across the globe.
