Canadian Museum of Nature: Nature Inspiration Awards
The seven #NatureForAll strategies offer solutions to a worldwide problem of disconnection from nature. They have been developed based on recommendations received from the 2014 IUCN World Parks Congress and the 2016 IUCN World Conservation Congress, and advice from #NatureForAll partners worldwide. They will continue to evolve over time. Not every strategy may be applicable in every situation, so our partners choose the one(s) that work best in their local context.
Our goal is to celebrate individuals and organizations who might not otherwise be recognized for their work and/or whose story will inspire others to engage in nature.
What Strategies Contributed to your Success?
Strategy 1: Bring Children Into Nature At An Early Age
Since we started we have inspired over 250 nominations from all provinces and territories. Each year we bring together 150 NIA champions at our annual NIA dinner in Ottawa to honor the finalists and the recipients and to draw more awareness to their initiatives.
The NIA has increased awareness of the Canadian Museum of Nature as Canada’s national museum and in turn, as a national champion for nature inspiration and engagement. This increased visibility positions all natural history museums as urban nature gateways, building respect, understanding and deeper connections to our natural world.
Start small and scale up.
A great idea can be effective even if it has small reach and impact to begin with.
Call on partners at the onset and keep them engaged as they will remain your champions.
