They also partake in two immersive expeditions addressing Ocean Health and Ocean Literacy in Canada.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The inaugural Ocean Bridge cohort experienced the stunning archipelago of Haida Gwaii, B.C. for a 10-day immersive wilderness expedition in May 2018, followed by a week-long urban service experience in Vancouver, B.C. in October.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00a0<em>Ocean Bridge is an Ocean Wise program funded by the Government of Canada through the\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/services\/canada-service-corps.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Canada Service Corps<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0focused on fostering a wider culture of service led for and by young Canadians.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-yui_3_17_2_1_1544203806492_56793\" class=\"sqs-block horizontalrule-block sqs-block-horizontalrule\" data-block-type=\"47\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-yui_3_17_2_1_1544203806492_56300\" class=\"sqs-block html-block sqs-block-html\" data-block-type=\"2\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<h2><strong>Meet Jasveen Brar<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\"><em>Hometown: Medicine Hat, Alberta <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><em>Among Jasveen\u2019s numerous projects throughout 2018 were\u00a014 events she organized\u00a0at the Redcliff Youth Centre during September under the banner of\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/medicinehatnews.com\/news\/local-news\/2018\/09\/25\/hatter-wrapping-up-month-of-ocean-talk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Oceans Month<\/em><\/a><em>.\u00a0She also organized a plogging event in her community and helped lead a national art project with other Ocean Bridge cohort members. <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><em>Jasveen&#8217;s year was highlighted by her\u00a0selection\u00a0by UNAC (United Nations Association In Canada) to be part of its delegation to\u00a0represent Ocean Bridge and the Canada Service Corps on the global stage at December\u2019s COP24 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Katowice, Poland as a Youth Ambassador. We spent those <strong>ten days connecting with nature<\/strong> through hikes, swims and stories while being disconnected from the rest of the world. Those completing the challenge will\u00a0receive a specially designed badge recognizing their contributions to ocean conservation. I had grown up right along the Atlantic coast in Cape Breton\u00a0and at that moment in life I never thought my connection\u00a0with nature could be any stronger<strong>. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Exploring the Arctic Tundra<\/strong> in the wake of\u00a0so much biodiversity with Canadian youth from across the country completely changed my views on nature and it made me even more motivated to protect it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">My next Guiding trip to <strong>The Sea of Cortez in Mexico <\/strong>was another life changing experience.
