Ocean Wise Launches Competition to Address Plastic Pollution

Ocean Wise Launches Competition to Address Plastic Pollution

#NatureForAll partner Ocean Wise has launched a new project — the Ocean Wise Innovator Lab. A competition that spotlights impactful ocean health initiatives is open to youth aged 13-30, including high school and university students, student clubs, and youth-led organizations. The inaugural program focuses on direct actions addressing challenges of plastic pollution in the ocean, with each following year focusing on a different ocean issue.

During the three-month program, participants will receive education and mentorship from leading entrepreneurs and ocean health experts in creation of their own innovations, including: Alexandra Cousteau, Co-founder of Ocean 2050, Brad Liski, Co-founder and CEO of Tru Earth, Natalie Fee, Founder of City to Sea, and more.

At the end of the program, applicants will be invited to submit innovations to solving ocean plastics. These innovations will be judged by leading ocean health experts, with the first place innovation winning $2500 CAD, second place of $1000 CAD, and third place winning $500 CAD. All participants will receive a digital certificate of recognition for their participation and a LinkedIn badge.

Applications are now open and the first ever Lab will be awarded at the conclusion of the program in spring 2022.
