Chiara is one of 17 inaugural members of the IUCN Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). The first of its kind, the YAC was launched in April 2024 to support the implementation of the IUCN Youth Strategy across the Union. The YAC is comprised of youth from across the globe, each bringing their own diverse experiences to support meaningful youth engagement in IUCN’s policies, processes and programmes. Get to know Chiara and other YAC members as we introduce them.
Hi everyone, my name is Chiara Oberle! I am a Swiss jurist with a professional and academic background in environmental law, international business law and human rights.
I am currently a junior associate at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, specialising in complex cross-border litigation and white-collar crime. I have previously clerked for the Honorable Judge Zünd at the European Court of Human Rights, served as legal officer at a foundation specialised in strategic marine protection, been an in-house legal officer at a Geneva-based translation and software company and served as a research assistant in private international law at the University of Geneva.
I hold a Bachelor’s in International Relations, a Bachelor of Law and a Master of Law from the University of Geneva. During my master’s I was selected to participate in an exchange program with Harvard Law School, where I provided legal advice regarding superfund sites to local NGOs as a student attorney at the Emmett Environmental Law and Policy Clinic.
I am also a Steering Committee member of the IUCN’s Climate Crisis Commission (CCC) and represent the CCC within the IUCN Youth Advisory Committee. In my free time, I am passionate about supporting youth in climate activism.
